Challenges: Fire

Fires, often deliberately started for burning garden green waste, continue to be a problem, particularly on the drier island of Praslin, which has been badly affected by fires and subsequent soil erosion in the past. Coco de Mer palm forest is particularly at risk and threatens the continued existence of this very slow-growing and iconic palm.
